On July 1st, Canada celebrates 146 years as a nation. While this vast land has been inhabited for millenia by indigenous peoples, and early Europeans explored its shores for the last 500 years, Canada became a nation in the global community in 1867.
I have been to Canada Day celebrations with millions of others in Ottawa, Ontario, the national capital, and with a cozy crowd in beautiful Lillooet, British Columbia: population 2500 or so. It doesn't matter where you are on July 1, Canadians love to party and wish this great, big country a great, big Happy Birthday.
