Getting Down to Business

The town of Grand Falls is the center of economic activity for the region which encompasses eight communities and a population of approximately 30 000 within a radius of 30 km.  Nestled on both sides of the Gorge, Grand falls is an agro-industrial community.  Grand Falls is in part an agricultural town, as well as being a commercial and manufacturing center.

The potato crop features largely into the local economy. The fields of potato, wheat and clover create a picturesque scene of rolling hills, a patchwork of colours. The surrounding rural landscape with rivers running through, provide visitors with a truly memorable visual experience and tourism opportunities continue to present themselves for entrepreneurs looking to start a business in Grand Falls.

Festivals are a four-season activity in town, with a Falls Beer Festival in early September, the Winter Carnival, as well as the Regional Potato Festival in late June/early July. 

Recreation and Outdoors

Grand Falls is surrounded by green forests, rivers and its spectacular water fall, all of which is easily accessible by residents and guests alike. The region contains valleys, high plateaus, two great rivers, and countless streams and lakes for boating, kayaking, fishing and swimming.

As winter ends, the spring high water rushes over the actual waterfalls into the basin with incredible force and thundering sound.  Visitors can walk down 250 steps to the 'Wells in the Rocks' where they can witness one of nature's wonders. The Gorge is one and a half kilometers long and rises higher than 70 meters (229 feet).  It can be viewed on foot or by boat.
