Whistler Strengthens Relationship with Lil'wat Nation and Squamish Nation

The Resort Municipality of Whistler, Lil’wat Nation and Squamish Nation have entered into an agreement to build stronger government-to-government relationships, and move forward on key areas of mutual interest including intergovernmental coordination, land use planning and management, economic development and transportation initiatives.

“The protocol is an important step in continuing to build our partnership toward shared interests and community priorities,” said Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden. “It is also marks a local commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, which defines a mutually respectful relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples.”

Whistler, British Columbia is home to one of North America’s top ski destinations and four-season resorts.  It is located in traditional First Nations (the Canadian term for indigenous and/or aboriginal people) territory among British Columbia’s magnificent coastal mountains.
