Vancouver Brewery and Lillooet Hop Farm form Award-winning Partnership

Vancouver-based Powell Street Craft Brewery stunned the Canadian beer scene by winning the Canadian Brewing Awards Beer of the Year.  The year-old nano-brewery, owned by David and Nicole Bowkett, won the prize for its Old Jalopy Ale.

Owners Sam Quinlan and Tim Hazard of Lillooet’s Bitterbine Hop Company were also celebrating as the beer was made with organic hops grown at their Lillooet farm. Quinlan says the hops – a variety that falls into the Northwest citrus-flavoured type - are certified organic from the 2012 harvest. Bitterbine is actively expanding its hop farm and working other growers to increase production for supplying other small breweries like Powell Street.
