Ultrafast Broadband Launching in Okotoks

According to reports in Okotoks, Alberta’s Western Wheel newspaper, the progressive community will have state-of-the-art fibre broadband service across most homes and businesses in 2018.  Due to its reputation as one of Canada’s most innovative communities, as well as its proximity to Alberta’s largest city of Calgary, this announcement further enhances Okotoks' desirability as a place to invest, start a business or relocate.

The Western Wheel reports that communications company TELUS announced the launch of its Pure Fibre network on March 12 in Okotoks. Construction of the infrastructure is set to begin in the spring, with a target to have 90 per cent of homes and businesses in Okotoks connected to the advanced broadband system by the end of 2018.

A TELUS spokesperson was quoted as stating that the network construction project will come at no cost to residents or businesses in Okotoks. He said the network will be gigabyte-enabled, meaning that while initial upload and download speeds will be 150 megabytes per second, the network will support future expansion of technological demands and eventually allow for upload and download speeds of one gigabyte per second.
