Ottawa’s Innovation Hub Grows with Addition of Place La Cité

New interdisciplinary creativity incubators at La Cité Collegiale will provide more research and development opportunities for Ottawa students as construction at Place La Cité is expected to start this month.

The $30 million project is a partnerships between the federal government, the province of Ontario and the College, all of which are contributing funds to develop  the multi-purpose space on La Cité Collegiale’s Aviation Parkway campus. The ground-floor studio and meeting space will have a 360-degree screen, retractable walls and capacity for up to 1,300 people.

A separate area, “La Factorie,” will be focused on technology as well as collaboration between students and small businesses. “Let’s say there are people who want to start a business and want to come to La Cité to exchange or brainstorm what their business will be doing, it can serve as some kind of business incubator, where they can meet and discuss and invite students to join too,” says Place La Cité spokesperson Pascale Montminy.  According to Montmigny, Place La Cité, will also be available for concerts, fashion shows and exhibits. The building is slated to open in Fall 2018.
