Okotoks Growth in the Works as Annexation Agreement Reaches Final Approval Stage

In late 2016 Okotoks successfully negotiated an uncontested annexation agreement after two-and-a-half years of discussions and planning. As a result, the community will add 1,950 hectares (4,818 acres) of land from the Municipal District of Foothills.

“Certainly getting that completed was a highlight of the year,” said Okotoks Mayor Bill Robertson. “We don’t have a final decision yet, but because it was uncontested it should be relatively smooth from here on.”  Both Okotoks and the M.D. of Foothills requested that the annexation be effective on January 1, 2017; however the Alberta provincial government has not yet made its decision.
