Canada Tops OECD Education Rankings

Are Canadians the most educated people in the world?  Based on the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the answer is yes.  Based on data collected for its 2017 publication Education at a Glance, the OECD reported that over 56 percent of Canadian adults have successfully completed some form of education (a 2-year program, 4-year program or post-secondary vocational or technical training) after completing high school.

Japan was the next highest at just over 50 percent while Canada’s neighbors to the south, the United States, ranked sixth at 45.7 percent.  Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, a former high school teacher, was quoted at the World Economic Forum in Davos (2016) as saying educated people are Canada’s greatest resource.  Trudeau stated that “Our natural resources are important, and they always will be. But Canadians know that what it takes to grow and prosper isn’t just what’s under our feet, it’s what between our ears.”
