Alberta’s Large Metropolitan Economies Bounce Back in 2018: Conference Board of Canada

Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta’s largest cities, are expected to regain economic strength after the oil price collapse of 2015-2016 slowed growth in both cities and across the province.

According to The Conference Board of Canada’s Metropolitan Outlook: Winter 2018, Calgary’s economy will grow 2.5 percent this year while Edmonton’s economy will increase 2.2 percent.  These are modest increases for a province that has been driving economic growth in Canada for much of the last decade.  However, the 2018 forecast, if achieved, will help to raise both cities’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to new highs.
